The Delaware County Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DCEMA) website is designed to be the central source for information on the county's homeland security and Emergency Management efforts and initiatives. This site will provide information about local government emergency management programs and efforts and about emergency preparedness efforts locally and statewide and how citizens can get involved. The Delaware County Emergency Management Agency is a tax-supported agency that has authority in all jurisdictions of the incorporated, and unincorporated areas of the county. The agency provides educational programs to a variety of community organizations, groups, and emergency first responders.

Mission

Delaware County Emergency Management Agency is responsible, by state law, to coordinate the community's resources, both public and private; to mitigate away; to coordinate the community's response when major emergencies or disasters occur; and to recover the community from all hazards and risk either natural or man-made. To protect the people of Delaware County, Indiana responding to and recovering from events that occur without regard to cause, location, or affect.
The mission of Emergency Management is extremely broad and comprehensive and this agency is working hard to prepare the community for all hazards and risks that may occur.

Reduce the loss of life and property by lessening the impact of disasters.

Ensure people and plans are ready to quickly and effectively respond to a disaster.

Homeland Security

The Delaware County Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (DCEMA) is responsible for administering homeland security grants awarded to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) District 6 and Delaware County in line with the guidance and decisions of the elected and appointed leaders. U.S. Department of Homeland Security (USDHS) is a federal department in the executive branch of the government of the United States. Homeland Security by definition is a concerted national effort to prevent terrorist attacks within the United States, reduce America's vulnerability to terrorism, and minimize the damage and recover from attacks that do occur.



16 Major Hazards

Hazards are natural or manmade conditions with the potential to cause death, injury or extensive property damage. The county is vulnerable to a variety of hazards, both natural and manmade. In 2010, the county conducted a hazard analysis that identified 16 major hazards based on historical data, frequency of occurrence, damage statistics and the county's overall vulnerability.
