We have been deluged with the amount of road damage leftover from the winter weather. Our repair time on potholes has had to be extended. What we are facing on our roads is that the chipseal program of the late 90's early 2000's did not work because it was not kept up. Chipseal roads needed redone after 3 years and sometimes sooner. Now what we have is that the emulsion on these roads has dried out and is causing our roads to unravel. So in saying that, we are not just filling potholes we are having to spend so much time on whole sections of roadways that have crumbled. Therefore we are at a point where we are getting to pothole complaints as fast as our Dept. can get to them.  I truly wish we could be more responsive but this is not possible with the situation we have as of now. We are plugging away and we will reach the end sometime soon and we can concentrate our efforts on paving roads and get back to usual maintenance issues.  We thank you for your patience and be assured that we are committed to serving you and the roadways of Delaware County.  Duke

THE BRIDGE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY DEPT HAS BEEN VERY BUSY EACH DAY ON RESOLVING WATER FLOW ISSUES ALL OVER THE COUNTY. NUMEROUS PIPES HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND THE CLEANING OF RESTRICTED PIPES CONTINUES. EACH YEAR BRINGS ON NEW COMPLAINTS AND PROBLEMS AND WE ARE BEING AS AGGRESSIVE AS WE CAN BE TO INVESTIGATE AND GET WORK ORDERS STARTED ON THESE REPAIRS WHERE NEEDED.  DUKE

We are currently cleaning culvert pipes and trying to resolve water problems on our roadways. We are running a debrushing crew each day. As far as potholes; they are popping up everyday. we are currently on a schedule of 2 days to get them patched. We deal with any car damage complaints by patching these complaints immediately upon receipt (of course this depends on what time of day we receive the complaint). As we know this is just the beginning of patching season and it could get worse but we have learned that the asphalt plants are going to start running Hot Mix around March 22nd. This will be a great advantage for us in our patching efforts. We are striving to improve our service as each year passes. Thank You for visiting,  Duke

We started the day shift at 7 a.m. We have a truck in each township and 3 trucks in additions. This should be our numbers of coverage throughout this next snow event that we are having. If at some point those winds get so bad that we cannot see we may have our drivers park at various locations in the county to be ready to assist emergency personnel on any calls they will need us on.  These situations will be our main priority in the event that it gets that bad out. Just in case here are phone numbers;

2-5-2010 7 a.m.  After a prediction of 4 to 8 inches of snow for today and tonight we started pretreating a few of our main roads yesterday. The precipitation was supposed to be here by now but we are now waiting on it to arrive. When it does, we will have 12 tandem snow plow trucks,6 single axle plow trucks and 4 pickup trucks to fight this storm. We have sufficient salt and sand stockpiled right now. Traveling will be hazardous during the heaviest times of snow and with the high winds predicted it will be difficult driving throughout today and tonight. as always the wind is our biggest enemy in our outlying areas with trying to keep the roads opened up. We will work non-stop until this snow event is cleaned up. Please be careful and give yourself extra time and extra distance to make your stops. Duke 2-5-2010 7 a.m.

2-5-2010 5 p.m. The snow has caused whiteout conditions in the rural areas. Our plows are out in every township plowing but it doesn't take long to fill back in with the wind blowing. It would be best if people could stay home and relax for the evening until this stops and we've had a good chance to clean it up. Be very careful. Duke 2-5-2010 5 p.m.
