Open Houses to Spotlight Progress Behind New Delaware-Muncie Plan
MUNCIE, Indiana –Three open houses next week will give the public a chance to weig hin on TogetherDM—the project to develop a new comprehensive plan for Delaware County and the City of Muncie. All three events will take place at Ivy Tech’s Fisher Building at 345 South High Street in downtown Muncie. The first will happen from 6:30pmto 8:00 pm on Monday, June 14th. The other two take place on Tuesday, June 15th, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm and from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. Each event will provide opportunities to learn about the project, provide input, and talk to project consultants and steering committee members. Together DM was launched in February and is coordinated by the Delaware-Muncie Metropolitan Plan Commission (DMMPC). A 17-member steering committee is guiding the project along with consultants from czbLLC and Ingalls Planning & Design. The new plan will replace the County-City comprehensive plan adopted in 2000. Over the project’s first four months, nearly 500 Delaware County residents participated in an online survey at www.TogetherDM.org, while over 100 took part in small group discussions facilitated by steering committee members. These engagements have shaped the emergence of priority issues to focus the planning process around, which will be highlighted at the open houses along with a draft decision-making framework and an opportunity to identify long-term outcomes that are most important to Delaware County and Muncie residents.“The open houses are an opportunity for people to see how their input or their neighbors’ input has shaped the planning process so far, and to hone the emerging priorities,” said Peter Lombardi, the project’s manager for czbLLC. “The research and analysis we’ve done is very much a reflection of what we’ve heard from our steering committee and the public, and the open houses are a chanc eto confirm the direction this project is going in or to make needed course corrections.”
